Equipment

While most fire stations have a fully outfitted gym and equipment, there are a few additional things you can make, acquire, or purchase for little to no cost.

Some things you can get are:

Tires of various sizes:  We got several tires from Sterns for free. They were happy to give them to us because they pay to have them disposed of anyway. Tiny was nice enough to offer to deliver them to station 74 for us. Thanks Tiny!!
COST: $ 0.00

2" Manila Rope: Also got for free from Chief Lane. Rope is great for doing different strength and conditioning exercises.
COST: $ 0.00

Medicine Balls: You can purchase them for various costs or make your own for about $ 5.00 a ball. Dausey makes his own with a cheap basketball, sand, and a tire plug. I bought my own and it was quite pricey.
COST: Around $ 30.00 (Bought) Or $ 5.00 (Homemade)

Rings: Plan on getting some soon. You also can make your own or buy them. Look online for instructions on how to make them.

Kettlebell: You have to buy these. I've seen them at a discounted price at play it again sports. The heavier weight you go, the more expensive they are. Start with a 25 lb. kettlebell. This is an essential piece of equipment to have.
COST: $ 30.00 to $ 50.00

Jump Rope: There are expensive (Buddy Lee) Jump Ropes... and there are cheep ones you can get at any store. Just make sure that they are the vinyl speed ropes. Another essential piece of equipment!!
COST: $ 4.00 to $ 40.00
